Heavy rain in Central Europe triggered severe flash floods on July 15th and the following days. In Germany, the Rhineland, North-Rhine Westphalia and parts of Bavaria were the most affected regions with more than 160 casualties and enourmous devastation of infrastructure.
The events show the importance of adaptation to climate change and that the added value of bilateral experience and exchange in research projects such as FloodAdaptVN brings benefits to all participants. Ecosystem-based measures are important components when adapting to climate change in Vietnam, Germany and other regions. FloodAdaptVN will further contribute to the improvement of flood risk management concepts and the assessment of locally adapted measures.
