German Aerospace Center (DLR) - Earth Observation Center (EOC)
The Earth Observation Center (EOC) - that consists of the German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD) and the Remote Sensing Technology Institute (IMF) - is the core institute of DLR’s earth observation activities. The German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD) is engaged in research, product development and providing services based on earth observation data from aircraft and satellite platforms. Results of this work support geo-scientific and environmental research and applications as well as commercial customers and civil security needs. Research projects focus on developing methodologies for generating customized data products as well as on the assimilation of data in models. The major fields of application are land use, the environment, civil security, climate and atmosphere, and geographic information systems.

Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen
The University of Tübingen, founded in 1477, belongs to the oldest universities in Europe and is one of eleven German Excellence Universities. It is located in the south of Germany and is internationally renowned in the fields of medicine, law, and theology in the first place. The research group of geoinformatics, belonging to the department of geosciences within the faculty of science, focuses on the analysis of landscapes and urban areas, as well as their interrelations by means of geospatial data analysis, remote sensing and machine learning. The research group is led by Prof. Dr. Volker Hochschild and is involved in numerous national and international research projects dealing with the assistance of urban planning in emerging economies, the evaluation of hydrological hazards related to global change, the support of humanitarian work, or the dispersal of cultural heritage in prehistoric times. Within FloodAdaptVN, the research group will lead the tasks of data collection, data management and integrated spatial analyses.

The University of Bonn has been a German University of Excellence since the summer of 2019. In 2025 it did extremely well in the Excellence contest of the federal and state governments (part of the national Excellence Strategy, “ExStra” for short) as the only institution among the (at that time) eleven Universities of Excellence to receive funding for eight Clusters of Excellence, thereby becoming the nation’s most successful University of Excellence. In March 2026 it was then decided that the University of Bonn is to be one of ten German Universities of Excellence to receive federal and state funding for another seven years (2027–2033).

Munich Climate Insurance Initiative (MCII)
MCII was initiated as a charitable organisation by representatives of insurers, research institutes and NGOs in April 2005 in response to the growing realization that insurance solutions can play a role in adaptation to climate change, as suggested in the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol. This initiative is hosted at the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), in Bonn (Germany). As a leading think tank on climate change and insurance, MCII is focused on developing solutions for the risks posed by climate change for the poorest and most vulnerable people in developing countries.
